Story Board

Interactive object written discription

The interactive object I plan to make will be designed specifically for the sense touch.  I plan to do this by eliminating all other senses from being used when the object is being used so as it is a pure touching experience. I have noticed that even when people are sitting in class or just doing every day things, their hands always seem to be fiddling with things that they are not even thinking about, whether it be a pen, a cell phone or even a bit of paper. So I want to create something that a person would play or fiddle with subconsciously. For example, the user would play with it while it was in their pocket when they are using a computer, or watching TV. The object will obviously have to be small and it will have many different surfaces, edges and moving parts to keep the user interested, but without them noticing. I am hoping that by correctly deigning this object the person using it will get excited by the idea that they have just been using this object without noticing and in turn that it has helped them keep on task rather than letting their hands wander and get distracted.

Object development and research

Have tried all sorts of thicknesses, surfaces and shapes. The best at the moment is the one in the photo directly above. It is thin and has a variety of surfaces on it that are stimulation to touch. although some of the other designs have some aspects that i might use also. During our feed back session people seemed to prefer the objects in the top two photos because the smoother edges are nicer to touch and run your finger over.
